Recent Suffolk Status: Local. Some evidence of a recent decline.

Life history: Single-brooded, the adults hibernating over the winter and reappearing in the spring. Only occasional at light and ivy blossom.

Identification: Pale pinion is quite similar and is more common in the county. The main feature to look for is the black bar in the outer corner of the forewing, present in Tawny pinion but absent in Pale pinion.

Habitat: Woodland and parkland.
