=Aporophyla lutulenta

Morley's Final Catalogue: Discovered, new to Suffolk, by Col. Hawley on sugar at Staverton Thicks in Butley during September 1932.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common, mainly in the Sandlings and Breck with scattered records elsewhere.
Formerly two species in the UK, Deep-brown dart Aporophyla lutulenta and Northern deep-brown dart Aporophyla lueneburgensis. Recent DNA studies have concluded that Aporophyla lutulenta is an eastern European species not found in the UK and all our moths are in fact Aporophyla lueneburgensis.

Life history: Single-brooded. Recorded on Ivy blossom as well as commonly at light. Larvae have been found in the spring, both at night and during the day, feeding on acid grasses and Heather.

Identification: Feathered brindle has black streaks along the edge of the forewing.

Habitat: Heathland, acid grassland, other grasslands, sand dunes and gardens.

Recorded in 40 (69%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1932.
Last Recorded in 2024.
