Minor Shoulder-knot
Brachylomia viminalis

(Fabricius, 1777) 2225 / 73.220

Morley's Final Catalogue: Surprisingly infrequent; usually singly. Ipswich, Needham, Stowmarket (ante 1890). Belstead in 1895 (Hkg); Bentley Woods and two in Ipswich (Baylis); a very few at electric light there in 1893-5 (Mly), and one in 1901 (Pyett).

Recent Suffolk Status: Very local. Some evidence of a recent decline.

Life history: Single-brooded. Mostly recorded at light in small numbers, but at one extensive woodland site near Hadleigh it has been seen in big numbers in recent years. A few larval records have been recorded from Suffolk, on Sallow.

Identification: Looks superficially like one of the minors, but they all lack a basal streak.

Habitat: Woodland, marshes, river valleys.

Recorded in 32 (55%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1893.
Last Recorded in 2024.
