Morley's Final Catalogue: ''Suffolk and Norfolk to Hunts, local in fens; central Europe; June'' (Meyrick, 66) - whence is this record? Not in Bloomfield. Cambs only, sec. Stainton.

Recent Suffolk Status: First records in the database are from the 1960s.
Now very local, mainly in the coastal reedbeds and along the Waveney valley. Occasional wanderers/immigrants have been noted along the coast and inland away from regular breeding sites.

Life history: Single-brooded. Mainly seen in May and June in Suffolk, rarely into July.

Identification: Silky wainscot is smaller, has a less pointed forewing an rests with wings held flat, unlike Flame wainscot which rests with wings more tentiform.

Habitat: Reedbeds and fens.

Recorded in 19 (33%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1961.
Last Recorded in 2024.
