Morley's Final Catalogue: A good deal commoner than was thought in 1890, when it had been noted singly at only Playford, Leiston and Lowestoft. Copdock (Hkg); many at street-lamps in Ipswich in Augusts of 1894-5 (Mly, Baylis, Pyett). Hemley in 1902 and one on suagr at Waldringfield in 1929 (Wlr); Aldeburgh (Entom. ii, 340). Bungay, a few at light in 1897 (Mn); Fritton at reed-blossom in September 1934 (Trans. ii, p. clxxxvii).

Recent Suffolk Status: Common in the Sandlings and Breck with scattered colonies elsewhere.

Life history: Single-brooded. Larvae have been found occasionally in Suffolk in late spring at acid grassland sites.

Identification: Unlike any other species at the time of year.

Habitat: Acid grassland, heathland, other less rank grassland sites, gardens.

Recorded in 43 (74%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1894.
Last Recorded in 2024.
