Morley's Final Catalogue: An interesting insect, as frequent in Suffolk as anywhere in Britain. Copdock, at light from May to July; Bentley Woods, rarely on sugar in June; a few at Felixstow in 1903 (Bloomfield in EMM. 1904, 80); Hemley, abundant at sugar and lilac blossom in 1901, and many at Waldringfield sugar in 1929 (Wlr). Needham, Stowmarket, Monks Soham, Southwold, Brandon and freely at light at Tuddenham. Sotterley, Bungay, Mettingham, Beccles; Gorleston in 1924-33 (Mr). Brandon, 1937 (Hawley).
Recent Suffolk status: Possibly extinct as a resident species with the last record in the Brecks in 1998. Only now likely to be seen as a rare migrant in the county. The most recent records have all been at Landguard, Felixstowe (N. Odin).
Life history: One generation per year, flying from May to July.
Identification: Similar to the other 'Gothic' species with a more distinct sub-terminal line. Compare with Feathered Gothic and Gothic. Photograph or retained specimen required.
Habitat: Formerly Breck grassland and other calcareous grassland sites.
