Morley's Final Catalogue: Ubiquitous in September, occasional at light, and locally in woods quite frequent on sugar. Bentley Woods, common; Ipswich, at light; Martlesham (D). Needham, Stowmarket. Downham. Aldeburgh, Leiston, not uncommon at Kessingland (EMM. 1904, 81), Beccles; Fritton (Mr). Abundant round Southwold in 1935 (Mly).

Recent Suffolk Status: Common, mainly in the Sandlings and the Breck, but also noted at other scattered sites across the county.

Life history: Single-brooded. Seen on Heather flowers after dark as well as at light. Larvae regularly found in the county in early spring searching after dark in areas of acid grassland.

Identification: Unmistakeable.

Habitat: Heathland, acid grassland, open woodland.

Recorded in 40 (69%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1930.
Last Recorded in 2024.
