Morley's Final Catalogue: A submaritime species, as locally common in the Breck District (as has not been hitherto noticed) at Brandon and Freckenham (Mly) as it is upon our east coast at Sizewell in 1936, Southwold and Lowestoft.
Recent Suffolk Status: Locally common along the coast from Gorleston to Sizewell. Much scarcer further south, although regularly recorded from Landguard, Felixstowe. Records are almost exclusively from the immediate coast, but does very occasionally wander slightly inland. Extinct in the Brecks.
Life history: Single-brooded. Adults have been found on Ragwort flowers after dark as well as at light in the county.
Identification: White-line dart pale forms can be quite similar, although they are normally more heavily patterned than Coast dart in Suffolk. The black arrow marks are usually distinctive on White-line dart. Sand dart is very similar, but it normally rests with wings not so tightly drawn together and it has a larger kidney mark.
Habitat: Sand dunes.
