Morley's Final Catalogue: Generally distributed, but not very frequent. Of no more than occasional occurrence about Ipswich, Monks Soham, Southwold, Gorleston, &c.

Recent Suffolk Status: Still a very local moth appearing in small numbers at light traps, mainly along the coast. Declining nationally.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Quite a tricky moth to identify from similar species. Very similar to dark forms of White-line dart, but is normally plainer and darker brown and lacks the black arrow marks in the outer part of the forewing. Square-spot rustic has a broader forewing.

Habitat: Gardens, farmland, marshes, open grassland.

Recorded in 41 (71%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
Last Recorded in 2023.
