Morley's Final Catalogue: In profusion throughout the county; occasionally at Monks Soham light in July and August. The somewhat unusual ab. finbriaria, Ste., was first described as a good species, 'Alcis fimbriaria, by Stephens from a single male ''taken, I believe, in Suffolk'' (Ste. Illus. Brit. Ent. iii, 1831, p.188, pl.xxx, fig.1.) Male.

Recent Suffolk Status: Abundant.

Life history: Double-brooded. Second brood more common. The melanic f. rebeli is occasionally seen in the county.

Identification: The cross lines start at the costa wide apart before almost converging near the trailing edge. In Mottled beauty the lines are wide apart across the wing. The cross lines on Satin beauty are less jagged. Feathered beauty has much more feathered antennae and the outer cross line is strongly curved in the trailing half.

Habitat: A wide variety of habitats including gardens.
