Morley's Final Catalogue: Abundant everywhere from Bentley Woods in 1935 to Goleston. At Monks Soham so early as 16 February in 1933.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Single-brooded, mainly in early spring but a few can emerge at the end of the year. Both sexes can be found after dark on tree trunks and the flightless females are occasionally found at rest during the day. Larvae regularly found in late spring/early summer in the county on a wide variety of trees.

Identification: The row of black dots along the wings in the male should separate this species from both Mottled and Scarce umbers. Females have larger wing stumps than other species.

Habitat: Woodland, parkland, gardens.

First Recorded in 1933.
Last Recorded in 2024.
