Morley's Final Catalogue: Considered 'rare' with us in 1890 and little noticed since that time, before which it had been found about Bentley (Ml); Swefling (Peek); Stowmarket (C); Bury (Wrt); and Brandon (Wrn). Taken at Blythburgh in 1935 (Btn) and Covehithe woods. in April 1936 (Gd).

Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Double-brooded. Second brood moths are smaller and paler in colour, more tawny than purple.

Identification: Similar Lunar thorn has a more scalloped hindwing edge and the cross lines are straighter.

Habitat: Woodland, scrub, wooded heathland, carr woodland and gardens.

Recorded in 52 (90%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1935.
Last Recorded in 2023.
