Morley's Final Catalogue: Less common than the last, but not rare. Bentley Woods (Ml, Hkg); Playford and Brandeston (Gr); Waldringfield in 1899 and Hemley in 1901 (Wlr); rarely at Monks Soham light in June (Mly); Stowmarket (C); Bury (Skepper, Norgate); Brandon, Bungay.

Recent Suffolk Status: Rare. Most recent records a thought to be immigrants/wanderers.

Life history: Mainly single-brooded.

Identification: Similar to Purple thorn. Hindwing is very deeply scalloped on Lunar thorn. Cross lines are more bowed on Purple thorn.

Habitat: Woodland, although recent Suffolk records have been coastal.

Retained Specimen / Photograph will be Required.

First Recorded in 1899.
Last Recorded in 2022.
