Morley's Final Catalogue: This has always been a quite common species throughout the County in August, extending to Gorleston; not frequent at Monks Soham light.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Fairly unmistakeable with the bright yellow thorax. Care must be taken with thorn moths that rest with wings at a high angle that have a buff thorax as the rare form of Canary-shouldered thorn that has this feature has occurred in the county. With moths like those the cross lines need to be checked; if the outer cross line is gently curved rather than straight then the moth will be Canary-shouldered thorn.

Habitat: Woodland, parkland, gardens.

Recorded in 53 (91%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
Last Recorded in 2024.
