Recent Suffolk status: Found across the county.

Description: An orange and purplish species which could only be confused with Dark Bordered Beauty Epione verspertaria, which does not occur in Suffolk.

Life history: One generation per year, flying from July to September. A moth of damp woodland and marshy areas.

Food plants: Sallows and Poplars.

Recorded in 46 (79%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
Last Recorded in 2023.
