Morley's Final Catalogue: Quite frequent in all urban and suburban gardens throughout the County; but as it certainly does not occur in those of the more rural districts, it might be suspected of a new-importation if it did not occur in the depths of the New Forest, as is the case.

Recent Suffolk Status: Has declined dramatically both in Suffolk and nationally since Morley's time and is hardly noted from gardens any more. Mainly found in recent years in carr woodland with stands of wild Currants, particularly on the edge of the Broads and in the Breck. Still in decline with a known population in south-east Suffolk thought now to be extinct.
Coastal records may well be migrants due to their very sporadic appearance.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Unmistakeable.

Habitat: Alder carr woodland, river valleys. Formerly in gardens.
