Morley's Final Catalogue: Abundant throughout the County in October and early November, from Bentley Woods to Gorleston; Monks Soham.

Recent Suffolk Status: Abundant. The commonest and most widespread of the November moth group and the one most likely to turn up in gardens.

Life history: Single-brooded. Larvae have been found fairly regularly on various trees in the late spring.

Identification: The November moth group are very difficult to seperate on wing markings alone. The end of the abdomen needs to be checked - this can be done without killing the moths by gently brushing off the scales and comparing with the photo shown on this page which shows the differences. Females cannot be readily identified, even with dissection.
Any records which haven't had abdomens checked will need to be recorded as aggregates.

Habitat: Various wooded habitats including gardens.

Verification Grade Comment: Very difficult to separate on markings alone.

Determination by Genitalia Examination (gen. det.) Required
