Morley's Final Catalogue: Locally abundant in woods, e.g. Bentley Woods, Henham Park. Monks Soham, uncommon at dusk and light. Bred at Ipswich.

Recent Suffolk Status: Locally common.

Life history: Single-brooded. Larvae found on many different tree species.

Identification: May highflyer flies earlier in the year and has 2 or 3 blackish streaks at the forewing tip. Ruddy highflyer is rarely greenish in colour, tending to be more greyish or reddish.

Habitat: Woodlands, scrub, some gardens.

Recorded in 52 (90%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
Last Recorded in 2024.
