Chloroclysta miata

(Linnaeus, 1758) 1761 / 70.096

Morley's Final Catalogue: Generally distributed and common at light in autumn, from Ipswich to Fritton and Gorleston. But rarely seen after hibernation; fresh-looking female at Monks Soham on 7 April 1930.

Recent Suffolk Status: This species status has changed dramatically in the county since Morley's time with it now being virtually extinct with almost no recent records apart from one in 2006 which may have been a wanderer/ immigrant. This trend is the complete opposite to the Red-green carpet.

Life history: Single-brooded, emerging in the autumn with the females hibernating after mating and reappearing in the spring in small numbers.

Identification: Red-green carpet is darker in colour with reddish markings on the wings.

Habitat: Woodlands, scrub, moorland.
