Morley's Final Catalogue: Constantly beaten from every hedge in the County, from Nayland to Gorleston.

Recent Suffolk Status: Local.

Life history: Double-brooded.

Identification: Red twin-spot and Dark barred twin-spot carpets are a tricky pair to tell apart. Dark barred appears rarer in the county and is more associated with wetland habitats. Dark barred can have a distinctive small notch on the inner edge of the dark band, but this feature is not 100% reliable. Dark barred also has a red form but this is apparently rare and would need to be proven as a record by dissection. Classic examples with a very dark cross band will be accepted as Dark barred.

Habitat: Mainly damper habitats including fens, river valleys and reedbeds.

Recorded in 52 (90%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
Last Recorded in 2024.
