Morley's Final Catalogue: Supposing the above Ptychopoda perochraria correctly named, the present species is new to our County list. Numerous males were captured at Thorpe Ness in mid-July 1934-5 by the Revd. A. P. Waller (Trans. iii, 91).

Recent Suffolk Status: Extinct as a resident species with the last record from the Thorpeness site in the 1980s . Now only occurs in the county as a migrant or wandering species from the colonies in Kent.
An intriguing record well inland at Elmsett in 2023, possibly a migrant individual.

Life history: Single brooded in the summer. Adults can be flushed from the habitat during the day as well as coming to light.

Identification: Ochraceous wave is brighter orange in colour with narrower forewings. Tawny wave is normally more purplish in colour and has a rounded forewing.

Habitat: Coastal grassland with abundant flowers.
