Morley's Final Catalogue: Distinctly local, but occurring somewhat freely in most of our larger oak-woods, by beating and at light, in July. Bentley Woods (Ml, Mly, Hkg who took five males on 5 July 1894); Ipswich, Needham, Stowmarket, Fornham, &c. Waldringfield, Henham, Easton Bavents.

Recent Suffolk Status: Fairly common across the county with more records in the south-east.

Life history: Single brooded in the summer. Very occasional autumn records in recent years, normally of very small individuals.
Larvae disguise themselves with pieces of dead leaf attached with silk.

Identification: Unmistakeable, the only emerald with blotches on the wings.

Habitat: Mainly established woodland and wooded heathland sites with mature Oaks.

Recorded in 41 (71%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1894.
Last Recorded in 2024.
