Morley's Final Catalogue: Decidedly local, as beech is not indigenous to Suffolk. Ipswich many years ago (Freeman, 1890); Needham (Skepper); taken by Mr. W. Baker at Ringshall and Battisford before 1858 (C, Nat. viii, 81); Tostock in 1902 (Tuck); Hardwick and Ampton (Wrt); Dalham (Skepper); Brandon (Wrn). Recently found by no one but Mr. Goddard, who beat it from bushes in Blythburgh wood in 1936.

Recent Suffolk Status: Scarce.

A very local moth both nationally and in Suffolk where its larval foodplant, Beech, is not common. Most Suffolk records in recent years are from the Breckland area although it has occurred in the southwest of the county, around Hollesley and Woodbridge.

Life history: This is a double-brooded species.

Identification: Separated from the similar Oak Hook-tip by its darker central band and only one prominent central spot on the forewings.

Habitats: Woodland, heathy woodland.

Recorded in 27 (47%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1890.
Last Recorded in 2024.
