Morley's Final Catalogue: Broadly distributed inland: utterly lacking along our entire coast-line. Usually taken at light, though it is one of the few Bombyces that come to sugar.

Recent Suffolk Status: Much declined and only now found in small numbers most years, mainly in VC26.

Life history: Single brooded, flies in early autumn.

Identification: Only similar species at the time of year is Oak processionary but that species has a pale crescent mark in the centre of the forewing.

Habitats: Woodland, wooded heathland, hedgerows.

Recorded in 25 (43%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1893.
Last Recorded in 2023.
