Morley's Final Catalogue: A somewhat rare kind, injurious to the bark of apple and pear trees.
Recent Suffolk status: One of the more regularly recorded clearwings in the county. More records in recent years with the use of pheromones. Very rarely recorded at light traps on warm nights.
Life history: Single-brooded, flying in summer.
Identification: Similar to Large red-belted clearwing, but smaller, with no red scales at the forewing base and white palps.
Habitats: Gardens, orchards, woodland.
