Morley's Final Catalogue: Widely distributed in sallow-stumps, but much less prevalent than the last kind.

Recent Suffolk status: Formely only occasionally recorded, mainly as larvae/feeding signs in willow stumps. Now recorded more regularly by using the pheromone lure.

Life history: Single-brooded, flying in summer.

Identification: Similar to Hornet moth but differs from that species as it has a black head.

Habitats: Wet woodlands, Sallow carr.
