Morley's Final Catalogue: Local, but wide spread in inland marshes. Copdock, rare on sugar by the Gipping at Ipswich (Mly, Baylis), Bixley, variable at Hemley (Wlr), Needham, Tuddenham (Sparke), a nice form at Brandon in 1921 (D), Downham (Norgate), Beccles, Lowestoft, Fritton in 1932, Gorleston in 1930 (Mr).
Recent Suffolk Status: Local along the coast, the Breck fens and river valleys.
Life history: Single-brooded. Both the plain brown and the more variegated forms both occur commonly in the county.
Identification: Ear moth is smaller and has dark wavy lines across the wings. Common rustic aggs are also smaller.
Habitat: Reedbeds, fens, marshes, river valleys.
