Morley's Final Catalogue: Much less common than the last kinds. Ipswich, Needham, Bury, Brandeston, Aldeburgh, Leiston (ante 1890). In multitudes on Bentley Woods sugar in September and October 1893, butnone there in 1894-8 (Mly, Baylis); Copdock in 1895-6 (Hkg). Waldringfield in plenty on ivy in October 1898 (Wlr). Henley (Sparke). Henham common in 1935 (Btn); Bungay (Mn); not very rare at Fritton, Burgh Castle (D), Gorleston and Frostenden (Mr).
Recent Suffolk Status: Very common.
Life history: Single-brooded. Regular at light and very occasionally seen in large numbers at woodland sites. Commonly recorded at Ivy blossom. Larvae have been found on Oak in the county in late spring.
Identification: F. obsoleta, which lacks the dark mark in the kidney mark, is regularly noted in the county. Brick has a more wavy yellow line in the outer area of the forewing. Red-line quaker is greyish and has a reddish line in the outer area of the forewing.
Habitat: Woodlands, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.
