(Linnaeus, 1758) 2160 / 73.267

Morley's Final Catalogue: Referring also to Broom moth: Both are common and levelly distributed throughout the County. The former (Bright line brown-eye) first noted here at Sudbury in 1836 (Ent. Mag. iv, 223).

Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Probably double-brooded in Suffolk, with records from April till October. Odd records even earlier and later than this. Regular in light traps in moderate numbers. Larvae are commonly found in gardens in the county, feeding on various plants including Tomatoes in greenhouses, where they can be classed as a pest.

Identification: Dog's tooth has the obvious dark tooth mark in the centre of the forewing and is greyer in colour. Splendid brocade is a paler colour, being more pinkish and has a whitish kidney mark, not orange like Bright-line brown-eye.
