(Linnaeus, 1761) 2142 / 73.257

Morley's Final Catalogue: On heaths; apparently much rarer than before 1890, when it was recorded from those about Foxhall, Leiston, Lowestoft, &c., as well as on the Breck at Brandon and Tuddenham. At Tuddenham it persists (Sparke); as well as at Hollesley (Wlr), Sutton where it was attracted to Cyanothus flowers (D), Belton and Fritton (Mr).

Recent Suffolk Status: Local on heaths in the Sandlings and the Brecks.

Life history: Double-brooded in Suffolk, with the second brood larger than the first. Comes to light in small numbers. More regularly seen on sunny days, flying fast over areas of Heather and also nectaring on the flowers of the same plant. The cryptically coloured larvae are found fairly regularly in Suffolk, normally at rest on stems of Heather during the day but can also be swept off the plant.

Identification: True lover's knot is larger and doesn't have the yellow hindwing.

Habitat: Heathland.

Recorded in 17 (29%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
