Morley's Final Catalogue: Frequent throughout the County, though scarce about Ipswich. The beautiful Hop-dog turns up every autumn about Campsea Ash (Lord Ullswater), Monks Soham (Mly), Needham (Platten) and Gorleston (D), usually presented to one in a homely matchbox!

Recent Suffolk status: Common. Regular records of the very colourful and highly distinctive larvae.

Life history: Single-brooded in late spring/early summer. Larval records in the autumn.

Identification: Dark tussock, and extremely rare species in the county, normally flies later in the year and has a darker forewing peppered with black spots.

Habitat: Found in a wide variety of habitats including gardens and woodland.
