Morley's Final Catalogue: Not recorded in Suffolk during Morley's time. He mentions the moth as 'Confined to south-west England'

Aston's Additions: Mr. E.W. Platten discovered the species at Needham Market on 10.xi.1937 when he found a male at light (Trans. S.N.S., Vol. III, p.295). It is now the subject of pilgrimages to Barking Woods but in fact has been found in several woods on the boulder-clay.

Recent Suffolk Status: This beautiful moth is still regularly recorded in woods containing Field Maple on the boulder-clay. It usually appears after the first frosts in mid-November and has been recorded as late as 6 February in 1997.

Life history: Single-brooded. Larvae sometimes recorded in late spring/early summer on Field maple.

Identification: Unmistakable.

Habitat: Woodland and hedgerows with Field maple on chalky boulder clay.
