Morley's Final Catalogue: Sylvan places in late May; scattered throughout the County and gregarious but never common.

Recent Suffolk Status: Found mainly in the Sandlings and Breck areas with occasional records at other sites. Larvae and larval feeding signs (small holes either side of the mid-rib of Honeysuckle leaves) more easier to find than the adults.

Life history: Single brooded in early summer. Occasional later records of adults in recent times in warm years. Larval records mainly in the summer.

Identification: Similar to Narrow-bordered bee hawk but has much wider brown bands around the forewings and a thick brown band across the abdomen. Humming-bird hawk has fully scaled greyish forewings with no clear patches.

Habitats: Gardens, woodland rides, heathland, scrub.
