Morley's Final Catalogue: Distinctly local, and rarely common. Holbrook (C, c. 1856) park, on 27 May 1894 (Mly); Bentley (Garrett, Ml) Woods during 1893-6 (Pyett), abundant there in June 1898 (Hkg); Needham (L); Stowmarket (C); Woolpit Wood in 1901 (Pyett). None further west.

Recent Suffolk Status: Very local, mainly in the Sandlings, Breck and woods south of Ipswich.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Engrailed has a lighter ground colour and lacks the white spot on the wing.

Habitat: Woodland.
