Morley's Final Catalogue: ''Very rare. Bred and taken at sugar at Ipswich by Mr. C. Long. Ipswich and Bentley (Mr G. Garrett of Ipswich ).'' Both this and the two next species were thought in all probability now extinct, for nothing had been heard of them since Bloomfield's records, which all relate to the decade 1855-65 excepting Mr. Miller's record, infra.

Recent Suffolk Status: Extinct.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Bigger than Pale Oak beauty, and the cross lines where they meet at the trailing of the forewing are thickened, almost forming a dark blotch.

Habitat: Mature woodland.
