Morley's Final Catalogue: A verey distinct species, 'usually common on the sea-coast' (Barrett). Ipswich (C, Ml), at light in 1893 (Mly); a half-dozen at Orford in 1902 (Gibbs); Aldeburgh (Crtw); Beccles (Crf); Gorleston in early July (D). This is another coast insect occurring on the Breck, at Brandon (Whe).

Recent Suffolk Status: Locally common on the coast and also found inland in smaller numbers.

Life history: Single-brooded. Larvae have been found after dark feeding on the seeds of Orache sp.

Identification: A large species of pug. Yarrow pug is a similar size but has a more pointed forewing and a small discal spot with lots of wavy lines. Plain pug has much straighter lines and a broader forewing.

Habitat: Saltmarshes, river valleys, waste ground, gardens.
