Morley's Final Catalogue: More plentiful and general here than, probably, anywhere in England; not much in evidence along the coast. Bures, Copdock, Bentley Woods (Baylis, Pyett). Ipswich, occasionally at Monks Soham light (Mly), Bramford, Barham oakwood, Bury, Tuddenham. Worlingham (Crf), Beccles in 1933 (Mr).

Recent Suffolk Status: Very local, mainly in Brecks. Rare in VC25.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Common carpet has a narrower white band on the forewing with an obvious grey line running through it, which continues into the white band on the hindwing. Galium carpet has the indented forewing.

Habitat: Woodland rides, Breck grassland, hedgerows.
