Morley's Final Catalogue: It has been found in Suffolk (Stephens 1831, 216). Quite common locally here, near the end of its north-east range; especially in hedges north of Ipswich. Very local round Sudbury (Harwood); Copdock (Hkg); Ipswich (Pyett); Barham and Henley (Sparke); Orwell Wood in 1901, Felixstow and Orford in 1902 (Gibbs); in plenty on tree-trunks at Brandeston (G); Monks Soham rare in late April 1933 and at Mildehall (Mly); common near Burgh Castle (Harwood); Fritton in 1935 (D). Extends to Brandon (Entom. xiv, 230; xv, 19).

Recent Suffolk Status: Locally common.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Both Balsam carpet and Dark barred twin-spot carpet are smaller and without the central dot in the dark band.

Habitat: Woodlands, hedgerows, damp grasslands.
