Morley's Final Catalogue: Curiously rare, considering the extent of our chalk. Brandeston, taken occasionally by beating undergrowth in hedges (Gr, c.1855). One specimen at Tuddenham (Waters). One at Southwold in 1902 by Lingwood (EMM, 1904, 81). Never seen in Suffolk (Mly).

Recent Suffolk Status: Extinct as a resident species, all recent records have been close to the coast and are thought to be immigrants/ wanderers.

Life history: Double brooded. Recent Suffolk records have been of the second brood. Can be easily flushed from its habitat in the daytime.

Identification: Unmistakeable.

Habitat: Chalk grassland containing Marjoram.

Recorded in 8 (14%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1855.
Last Recorded in 2024.
