Morley's Final Catalogue: Not infrequent, and presumably generally distributed. But uncommon about Ipswich, where it flew to electric light several times in August 1894; in garden and at light at Monks Soham, where maple abounds; Brampton Wood (Mly) and Beccles (Mr) in 1932. Sibton (Hawley).

Recent Suffolk Status: Very local in a few woods in the county. The very occasional coastal records are thought to be migrants. Seemingly rarer than in Morley's time.

Life history: Double brooded.

Identification: Unmistakeable.

Habitat: Woodlands containing Field maple.
